San Joaquin A+ – Where Education Meets Opportunity

Getting Started

San Joaquin A+ works through your school — so your first step is finding out if your school is a current partner. If it is, you’re already on the path. Here’s how the journey works.

1

Check Your School

Find out if your school is a current SJA+ partner. If not, encourage your counselor or principal to connect with us.

2

Explore & Engage

Participate in job site tours, industry panels, and career exploration events hosted at your school throughout the year.

3

Apply for an Internship

During the spring semester, eligible students apply for paid summer internships. Our team guides you through the application and interview process.

4

Get Paid. Build Your Future.

Complete a paid summer internship with a real employer partner. Earn wages. Build your resume. Start your professional network.

Who Can Apply

Internship Eligibility

Our paid internship program requires a full-year commitment — meaning you’ll be engaged in SJA+ programming throughout the school year before the summer placement begins. This isn’t a one-summer sign-up. It’s a journey that prepares you to succeed when you get there.

Eligibility is determined in partnership with your school. If you’re active in the program and engaged throughout the year, you’re on track to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

  • ✓ Enrolled at a current SJA+ partner school
  • ✓ Active participation in CCL programming throughout the school year
  • ✓ Meet academic standing requirements (confirmed with school counselor)
  • ✓ Availability for full summer internship commitment (June – August)
  • ✓ Completed internship application and interview process (spring semester)

Where You Could Work

Types of Internships

San Joaquin A+ places students with employer partners across a range of industries in San Joaquin County. We match students based on their interests, career goals, and the availability of partner placements. Below are some of the industry areas where interns are commonly placed.

Internships in healthcare settings expose students to patient care environments, administrative operations, health education, and the wide range of careers within the medical field — from clinical to administrative to public health.
Students gain experience in professional office environments, learning the fundamentals of business operations, customer service, financial administration, and organizational management.
Hands-on internships in skilled trades introduce students to careers in construction, electrical work, plumbing, and related fields — high-demand industries with strong wage potential right here in the Central Valley.
Students interested in teaching, counseling, or working with youth get placed in school sites, community organizations, and after-school programs to explore careers in education and human services.
From IT support to graphic design to content creation, technology-adjacent internships build digital skills that apply across nearly every industry — and open doors to careers with strong growth trajectories.
Rooted in the Central Valley’s agricultural heritage, these placements connect students to careers in food systems, environmental management, agribusiness, and sustainable land use.
