The Stockton Unified School District has become the latest to release a mobile application in an effort to expand its communications outreach.
The free SUSD app, available Friday for both iPhone and Android smartphones, offers users a feed of district news and events and enables them to follow schools they are most interested in and to get updates about school closures, calendar changes and sporting events.
“Stockton Unified is committed to improving communications with our families, students, and community,” district spokeswoman Shelley Spessard said in a statement.
“We’re proud to offer a variety of 21st-century options for families to receive the information they need. We’re excited to share more about the ways we’re helping all SUSD students graduate college, career, and community ready.”
SUSD joins both the Lodi and Manteca unifieds in providing students and their parents with another way to keep track of what’s going on within their districts.
Lodi Unified unveiled its mobile app in December that allows users to receive notifications about emergencies and access grades, assignments, and attendance information.
Among the additional features included in the free app are those that let users view current cafeteria balances, be updated on upcoming Board of Education meetings, find a contact directory for district staff and sync school event information with mobile phone calendars.
After the launch, Lodi Unified officials said at the time that the app had been downloaded 3,248 times.
Manteca Unified rolled out its app in 2016 that came with links to its calendar, scores, YouTube channel, and a way for parents to keep up with student grades.
The SUSD app is the newest communications tool put out by the district in the past year.
This summer saw a much-needed upgrade to the district’s website that came with a new template.
Not only is the webpage more mobile-friendly, but the site is equipped with fluid navigation through pages and links, larger photographs and easier access for parents and staff to find information.
